Partly since United Nations have their headquarters in the city and also due to that the city is probably the most famous and most popular tourist city on earth with people from all over the world. New York is one of those cities where three days is enough to scratch the surface, but fourteen days isn't enough to see and do even a fraction of everything it has to offer. You can certainly visit New York for a weekend and be pleased when you leave. In my opinion, you shouldn't stay for more than five days at a time. With that said, I've visited for a full week twice, but neither of those times has it been fully up to me how the trips were planned.
Do I Recommend You To Visit?
It's hard to advise anyone against visiting New York City!
Will I Come Back Again?
Most likely, yes. New York is one of the places I frequently return to for different reasons. It's actually not one of my favorite cities, but it checks a lot of the boxes I want from certain trips and it's easy to find friends willing to come along.
Weather During My Stay:
Last time, in July 2022, it was the first time where I had excellent weather for most of my stay. I was in New York for nine days (two of which I left during the day for day trips further South), and it was blue skies and hot during all but two of those days. On previous trips, I've found myself under an overcast for a substantial part of the trips.
Best:
The feeling of just being in the city that best handles the description "Center of the World", or "Capital of the World". There's just so much to see and do.
Not As Good:
There's a severe epidemic of homelessness and open drug use in the city. The area around Times Square was not fun anymore at all.

Times Square on a cloudy day.
The Skyline of Midtown Manhattan, seen from Gantry Plaza State Park in Queens. Empire State Building is visible in the center of the picture, and the UN Building is prominent to the right.

One of the newest attractions of New York is the High Line. A park built upon old train tracks.
6th Ave, near 42nd St and Bryant Park in Midtown. Not far from Times Square.
Little Italy on the corner of Mulberry St and Broome St.
Don't skip taking a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge! However, the views from the bridge aren't that great. You get better views from the shore when you arrive in Brooklyn. Or do as I did and take a subway to Brooklyn and walk back into Manhattan so that you have the skyline in front of you throughout your walk.
