Super Duper Burgers - The New Fast Food Sensation From San Francisco
California is heaven for fast food lovers and the place where a lot of the most famous, and best chains trace their origins. Before I traveled back to San Francisco in March 2022 for the fourth time and the first time since 2015, I had read online about a new chain that had become super popular in the city. The chain was also very local as it is currently only found throughout the Bay Area. One of the reasons why it has generated such a loyal following in the Bay Area is that they only use locally produced ingredients in the food. But the main reason still has to be the quality of the food!
Super Duper Burgers is a chain in the same category as Five Guys or Shakeshack. They aim for a higher quality than the traditional fast food chain, such as McDonald's or Burger King, and the price is subsequently higher too. This is however something that they are very open about. They even mention it as something positive on their website. "A burger shouldn't cost $3", they say, and argue that it's worth paying a little bit more for quality and making sure that the people producing the food get paid accordingly. It is true, if you want higher quality it will have to cost more. A burger, fries, and fountain drink will cost you about $20, depending on add-ons. It's not terrible. It's not even that far off from the lower-quality chains nowadays.
A meal from Super Duper Burgers. The "Super Burger" with fries and the 3 House-Made Dips. The menu is short and simple, with few base options but lots of customization alternatives.

You order the items for your meal separately, so there's no combo or similar deal. You order them one by one and customize them to your personal taste. To order, they will ask you to use the computers they have set up by the cashier, which makes it easier to customize.
The burger is similar to the ones you get at Shakeshack. It truly did taste great and I had to go back for one more before leaving the city. The burger consists of the type of smashed meat that is trendy at the moment, and you get two patties covered in cheese (if you choose that add-on)! Delicious!
I liked the fries, and they are not like the other similar chains, none of them. Good size, and good crispness. The size is also decent. You don't get as much as from Five Guys, but the quality is higher (which is what they aim for).
I strongly recommend adding the three dipping sauces for $1.50. The three flavors, which you get one each of as a standard package, are Chipotle, Mayo, and their own Super Sauce. You get enough sauce to dip deep with every individual fry without the risk of running out.

You should try this chain if you're in San Francisco. If not only for the reason that you won't find it anywhere else (at least for the time being). I was thinking that I would have to do some planning to find a store at a suitable time. It turns out that they are easy to find in the Downtown area. Currently, as of April 2022, there are a total of 15 restaurants throughout the Bay Area.
Even if you're not a fast food enthusiast you will probably find yourself just looking for something quick for lunch or similar. Don't go to McDonald's or one of the other usual suspects. Find out if you're near a Super Duper and go there instead!
I can entirely understand the hype. I wished that they would come to Europe, but since they haven't even expanded outside of the Bay Area yet I suspect that won't happen in the foreseeable future. But next time I'm in Los Angeles they might have expanded there at least!
