Pathum Wan, or Pathumwan (both spellings seems to be used interchangeably), are where Modern Bangkok is rising. The centerpiece of the area is a large main road that will change its name several times along the way. It goes by the name of Rama I Road in the east, then changes into Phloen Chit Road for a short while before it continues as Sukhumvit Road towards the west. Along this road, you will walk through a maze of overpasses and sidewalks which follow the BTS Silom line with several luxury shopping gallerias lined up after each other, and sometimes you even have to pass through the gallerias to continue your walk.

It's a very bust road and the street was in total gridlock for most of the time when I was visiting.
