Place is, as you can probably guess, the French word for Square. This very central square, the heart of the city, is named after Jean-Baptiste Kléber. He was a General in the French Revolutionary Wars (1792 - 1802) and quickly rose through the ranks. He was born in Strasbourg in 1753 and was assassinated in 1800, before the wars were over, in Cairo, Egypt.
