What Is Celebrated On The National Day:

17th of May (Norwegian: Syttende Mai) celebrates the day when the Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on 17 May 1814. Later that year, the short-lived independence of Norway ended and the country was forced into a personal union with Sweden. They were however allowed to keep their separate constitution. That is said to be an important part of why the country was able to keep its national identity, and later regain its independence on the 7th of June 1905.
